Detection of virus in neighbouring countries decreases pork consumption in Laos

VIENTIANE (Vientiane Times/ANN) – An African swine fever outbreak in neighbouring countries has created worries among consumers in Laos, leading to a sudden decrease in consumption of pork.

Fear among consumers increased after Lao authorities detected the virus in imported pork, entrails and bones. The government has issued a notice suspending the import of pigs and related products from China and Vietnam, but some people have decided to stop eating pork until the outbreak in Vietnam is controlled.
